Tips for choosing the right photographer to capture your big moment.

So, you're ready to propose to your amazing other half? First off, congratulations! Whether you're proposing on a misty highland peak or in the cosy corner of your favourite pub, capturing this moment with photos is the ultimate way to relive the magic (and show off to your gran). But how do you choose the right photographer? Don't worry - I've got you covered.

Find a Photographer Who Gets Your Style (and Sense of Humour)

Proposals are emotional, exciting, and sometimes absolutely hilarious. Your photographer should get this! Look for someone whose style is all about natural, candid moments - no awkward posing or trying to look like a movie poster. If you want real, messy, beautifully 'you' photos, that's what I do!

Your Photographer should be a ninja!

Pro Tip: The best proposal photos happen when your partner doesn't even know the camera is there or doesn't know its for them!

Choose Someone Who Knows the Area

Scotland is stunning, but its also temperamental. One minute its sunny; the next, you're battling gale-force winds. (I'm not even kidding!) A local photographer knows the best spots, the right light, and how to make the most of the unpredictable weather.

I'll Only Say This Once

COMMUNICATION . IS . EVERYTHING!

Once you have chosen your photographer, make sure you tell them your plans. Every single little detail. They are there to help you. They can offer advice on locations, timings, outfits, nerves.

I always say to my clients to make sure you have a back up option! My husband wanted to propose to me at the top of Ben Nevis but the weather had me (very much unaware he wanted to propose) storming back down the mountain before we were even half way up!

The point is - make sure there is always a back up plan, or 2 if you want to be even more prepared! Discuss in lots of details with your photographer. They will thank you for it and you will feel better too.

It could be simple, or it could be chaos!

No proposal goes 100% to plan - and thats the best part! Whether its a surprise happy dance, an ugly cry, or a 'what just happened?!' moment, your photographer should catch it all. Bonus points if they bring champagne for the after party (spoiler: I always recommend it!).
